The Software

SAA-TSR audio system is now available

Some software is still full-price, other one is public domain or free ware. Full-price software can't be freely spread, you have to pay for it. If you want to download some free-of-charge software, simply click on a highlighted name (see list below).

How to convert a Sam disc to a PC-file:
At first you need a PC AT computer with a 3,5" floppy drive. Nothing special.
Saving a whole Sam disc to a PC-file is called "making a backup". There are two ways of how to make a backup:

1. You can use the famous program called Teledisk. You can obtain it freely via Internet, but to use it you have to pay! The other problem is, that Teledisk doesn't run on every PC AT computer. Also, the Teledisk-files cannot be loaded directly to SimCoupé, so I don't recommend to use Teledisk at all.
2. You can use a special Sam-related software for DOS/Windows or Linux. It's recommended to use combination of FdRead and SBK - SamBackup. FdRead is a high-quality BIOS patch for those computers (almost every) which cannot read Sam discs directly. It also speeds up a bit the reading of a floppy disc. SBK is program to make and restore the backups of Sam discs. It supports nonstandard discs too (e.g. special 820k discs) too and works perfectly under both DOS and Windows.

How to work with disc images:
SBK stores disc images into SAD format (SAD as SAmDisc). They can be used by SimCoupé as well as its own DSK format. If you use SimCoupé version 0.70, you need additional converters to convert SAD to/from the raw DSK format. These programs are called SAD2DSK and DSK2SAD and they convert files between SAD and DSK formats. You can use a resident DOS-patch too, which converts SAD files to DSK on-line. So, it takes no time to convert SAD to DSK. I hope, that future versions of SimCoupé (after 0.70) will support SAD format directly. It's far more flexible than DSK. Both SAD and DSK can be well compressed using PkZip or any other compressor (Ain recommended), so they are shorter than Teledisk's files. You can also use resident Stacker-like compressor, which saves about 50% of space and uncompress the disc images when they are opened by SimCoupé. The problem is, that this is very slow when using SimCoupé version 0.70. I hope it will be fixed in next version of SimCoupé. (Hi, Allan!)

How to download Sam-software from this site:
You can download some Sam Coupé software here. All discs are packed using SBK and PkZip.
If you use SimCoupé, you need only to unpack the files. You can use PkUnzip or Norton Commander (DOS/Windows) or unzip (Unix).
If you want to use this doftware on real Sam Coupé, you have to put the files onto Sam disc. So you need also FdFormat/FdRead and SBK.

Sam-related software for DOS/Windows:
SimCoupé
(Allan J.Skillman)
Go back to home and then follow "Allan J.Skillman" link.
SimCoupé /a
(version 0.781a)
The latest version.
FdFormat/FdRead
(Ch.H.Hochstätter)
This is a special Sam-light-release of FdFormat/FdRead. It's needed to work with Sam discs on a PC AT. It allows to work with 10-sectors-per-track discs.
SBK - SamBackup
(Aley Keprt)
This program can save a whole Sam disc to a PC-file. This imagefile can be used in SimCoupé or saved back to a Sam disc. To format a Sam disc you need FdFormat.
SMD - SamMasterDos
(Aley Keprt)
As the name says, this is an emulator of SamDos and MasterDos features for MS-DOS. It can only read Sam/MasterDos discs and copy the files from them to PC hard drive.
DSK2SAD v1.1
(Aley Keprt)
This program converts floppy disk images from old DSK format to new SAD format. Both EXECUTABLE and SOURCE included!
SAD2DSK v1.1
(Aley Keprt)
This program converts floppy disk images from SAD back to old DSK format. Both EXECUTABLE and SOURCE included!
SAA1099 Emulator
(Aley Keprt)
This is an alpha version of my SAA1099 emulator. SAA1099 is Sam's soundchip. Click here to get more info.
